What if you could take these self-organizing properties and leverage them, creating entire organs in the body? If you could, you would have organoids or an organoid system for the body.
It’s a Very New Technology
Scientists still don’t have organoids figured out completely. The technology is in its infancy, which means it’s still pseudo-science at this point in time.
Most organoid models will be single or partial components of a tissue simply because the lab researchers haven’t yet figured how to control the types of the cells produced, their organization and the cell-cell/cell-matrix interactions within the systems. The stem cells themselves are the work horse of the organoid system, according to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard professors, and the stem cell behavior is controlled by the environment.
Learning about stem cells has caused scientists to reconsider how they think about the human body. Now it’s believed that the body is “a sum of a great number and wide variety of cellular and non-cellular materials formed in a highly organized manner.” However that’s not everything it is. The body also includes the internal and external interactions of these cellular and non-cellular materials. The true essence of the body is that it’s multi-dimensional and multi-level. And what about other realms, such as spiritual ones, energetic ones, and even psychological when thoughts and feelings affect cells?
What Exactly is a Stem Cell Organoid?
But what they are good for is allowing scientists to determine what mechanisms went haywire in the humans whose stem cells were originally used to create the spheroids. It’s like a treasure hunt for the scientists – “Let’s find out what mechanisms in the brain of this patient with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or autism are not working right and causing disorders of communication between cells not just individually but in circuits, too.”
The question is where does the technology go from here on. After you know the mechanisms that are deranged, you can use it to find patients with a certain set of variant genes that will respond to certain drugs. (We’re back to the traditional medical model again…) Why not then use these cells to develop a whole set of drugs based on variant genes. That’s what the doctors believe. “It’s precision medicine – bc you show these genes, you respond to drug X, not drug Y,” they say, and that matters to them.

Is a Split Coming in the Field of Regenerative Medicine?
But it’s still the same old medical model of rescuing the patient from his/her own danger and/or bad lifestyle entanglements and then offering a profit-driven pharmaceutical drug to the person. Where’s the true healing, such as what happens with stem cell doctors right now focused on true regenerative medicine where the knee joint or spinal joint is injected with stem cells that actually correct the problem and allow the patient to freely walk on his life journey without any dependency on pharmaceuticals?
Some alarm has already been experienced in the public realm. Take a look at this video which clearly defines the warning for their cautionary approach: Heart
Scientists Grow Full-Sized, Beating Human Hearts from Stem Cells
So where does the warning come from? Actually, the caution is not without evidence. Induced pluripotent human stem cells are the exact stem cells that have been linked to the development of teratomas – large ‘dirty’ tumors that develop and grow, sometimes rapidly, and are composed of hair, skin, cartilage, bone, tissues, teeth, muscles and any other tissue that stem cells make on their own.
Yet, that’s what’s being done in organoid research. Induced pluripotent stem cells are used in the process. The scientists took the patients’ own cells and reverted them back to stem cells and then used the stem cells to grow a primitive kidney and primitive GI tract. Or a spheroid or a lung.

It’s something to think about.
